Iceberg lettuce
Lettuces belong to the genus Lactuca and the Asteraceae family.
Their flavor is mild, pleasant, and fresh.
When purchasing lettuce, choose seasonal varieties. They will be more flavorful and nutritious than those grown in greenhouses. It is preferable to select specimens with a bright green color, which ranges from deep to light green in most varieties.
It is advisable to store them unwashed, and if washed, they should be consumed within one or two days.
Lettuce is a food that provides very few calories due to its high water content, low carbohydrate content, and even lower protein and fat content.
Regarding its vitamin content, it is particularly rich in folate, provitamin A or beta-carotene, and vitamins C and E.
